Cristiano Ronaldo Potential Move to PSG

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/players/cristiano-ronaldo/11672629/Cristiano-Ronaldos-87m-move-to-Paris-St-Germain-depends-on-Zlatan-Ibrahimovic-and-FFP.html

This article discusses Cristiano Ronaldo's transfer options to the Paris hegemon next season. He has said in interviews that he wants to retire as a Real Madrid player, but an 87 million euro deal could swing his plans. This deal also depends on Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is not a huge Ronaldo fan. If Ibrahimovic decides to move on from Paris Sant-Germain next season, PSG will be looking for a star replacement. I don't buy that Ronaldo would stay anywhere based on morals, the guy is after the money and the fame. Do you think Ronaldo would toss aside his Real Madrid crown and try out the French league? Also, how would Real Madrid bounce back from such a massive player loss like Ronaldo?

  1. Interesting article Tyler, I wonder how much Ibrahimovic's presence with PSG affects Ronaldo's decision. I'm assuming that he is more interested in winning at this point in his career. With the amount of money he is currently making I don't think any further pay increase will have much an affect on his decision.

  2. I think he would leave in a heartbeat, look at his move from United to Madrid as an example. He told the fans he would not be leaving, but then he was offered a contract that made him the highest paid player in the world. Money is a huge influence for Ronaldo, and clubs will pay as much as they can to get him. If he were to leave I see Madrid still doing well. They have a solid group of players that would be able to perform even if they lost him, and they would have the money to buy players to replace him. It would be strange to see Madrid without Ronaldo, but they would be fine without him.

  3. I think it would be interesting to see if he would maintain such a huge fan base around the world with a move like this. I feel like he would get so much negative press due to the fact that he has publicly stated he is so loyal to Madrid and wants to retire there.

  4. I do not think Ronaldo will decide to transfer because he would lose a lot of fan support from Real Madrid. By stating his loyalty to Real Madrid, he has somewhat of a moral commitment. If he were to switch teams, I would not trust him as a player or as a person. It may benefit him financially to switch teams, but his losses would be more meaningful.

  5. Although money clearly is the biggest influence for Ronaldo in determining where to play, I don't think he leaves because I don't think Real Madrid will let him go to PSG. Real Madrid will pay him the money so he doesn't leave. But he would probably leave in the event PSG pays him more (doubtful), he could leave as he has no real "loyalty" to any club to stay.
