Sporting teams are highly used as a course of advertising to get brands noticed. Manchester United made a 10-year sponsorship deal with Adidas that is worth more then 1.5 billion last year. Adidas created a limited shoe called "Stretford." This shoe was to help promote their companies MU clothing line for that was released earlier this year. When picking the shoes colors they picked blue which is MU's rival Manchester City's colors.
Adidas has hurt their company from this mistake. This could be destrumental putting their company at risk of losing loyal customers. Adidas needs to make a new product that can help make up for the mistake and bring back MU loyal customers.
For volleyball, we used to paint our nails the opponent's team color for the game day. The color on the shoe of their rival team could symbolize aggressiveness and readiness to compete. If Adidas decided to take this approach rather than suggesting it symbolized a previous victory. Adidas should have came up with a better story to make sense of their color choice.
ReplyDeleteHas Manchester United released anything about their discontent with the color of the shoe? Seems odd, but then again it could symbolize their readiness for when they play Chelsea (as Maddie mentioned above). Has Adidas apologized to the Manchester United community for producing this shoe?
ReplyDeleteI don't believe this will be too detrimental to Adidas's success and brand. I agree they can come up with a story to make sense of their choice, or they can just claim it is an alternative shoe, which teams and companies often do. They should also release the correct color brand as well, however so fans can have the one they desire.
ReplyDeleteI think you could also include some statistics that prove your point. By just stating that it is detrimental doesn't provide proof that the reader can understand and validate. This is an interesting topic, but you should expand a little bit with some further description and background so it is a little easier for the reader to agree with.
ReplyDeleteWhy exactly is this detrimental for Adidas? How many projected customers has Adidas lost from this mistake, and how many more could it have had if they picked different colors? Perhaps go into greater depth in regards to the specific losses Adidas incurred.
